  • We predict the poem could be about a place called Upton Wood or a person named Upton Wood.
  • Three men wee hung and ravens came and ate their eyes. The people once had a life and now they do not, people who walk by were filled with fear. The ravens ate the three men. The first guy was either crazy or very angry. The second guy prayed to God to save him. The last person was a young boy. The young boy was guilty because he was with the guys (guilty by association). He was young, his bones were still young. Few peolple walked through Upton Wood where they hung. Most were afraid except a young maid. She sees the ghosts. The maid has visted for a long time. One day she went in and she never came back out, she has died. When it became dawn, they found her body. The young girl now dances with the young boy. The girl was the daughter of the sheriff who killed the three men

  • Juxaposition: Life Vs. Death - Young LIfe Vs. Death - Young Maid Not Scared Vs. Everyone Else Scared. Imagery - "Picked well clean six eyes." Simile - "Eyes like blue ice." "Like six black bowls."
  • Connotation
  • Creepy - young girl walked into woods never walked out, now dances with young boy. Gloomy and dark in the beginning. Happy, love, and joyness at the end of the story.
  • Attitude and Tone
  • "But the maid came through with no fright." That indicates that the maid was the only one was not afraid.
  • Shifts
  • Upton Wood is a place where people have died. Upton Wood is the place where people have been hung. (Hanging tree; hanging place).
  • Title Again.
  • Love is for forever even after death. The young girl and young boy still loved each other or still wanted to be with each other even after death.
