Storyboard Text

  • "I really don't see anything romantic in proposing. If I ever get married ,I'll certainly try to forget the fact."
  • "Please don't touch the cucumber sandwiches. They are ordered especially for Aunt Augusta."
  • "Well, you have been eating them all the time"
  • "Oh! Of course I have been rather reckless"
  • "I hope you have not been leading a double life, pretending to be wicked and being really good all the time"
  • Algernon's line has situational irony because in the end we know that he proposes to Cecily when knowing her for less than a day.
  • "It would hardly have been a serious engagement if it hadn't been broken off at least once."
  • Algernon's line has verbal irony because he's being hypocrite not letting Jack eat the sandwiches when he has been eating them all.
  • "Dead! When did Mr.Bunbury die? His death must have been extremely sudden."
  • "Bunbury is somewhere else at the present. In fact, Bunbury is dead."
  • Ceclily's line has dramatic irony because she describes exactly what has been happening but Algernon doesn't admit to it.
  • "Gwendolen, it is a terrible thing for a man to find out suddenly that all his life he has been speaking nothing but the truth.
  • Ceclily's line has verbal irony because usually people don't have to break off engagements to be serious...
  • "But why on earth did you break it off? What had I done?"
  • There's dramatic irony because we know that Bunbury is not dead because he isn't real.
  • There's verbal irony because usually saying the truth is usually a good thing.
  • "Ernest! My own Ernest!"
