Storyboard Text

  • Today I got a hamburger.
  • Hey Emily! What did you get for lunch today?
  • It looks really good! Did you know that your burger is an example of stored chemical energy?
  • Wow, that's really cool!
  • Chemical energy is released when bonds form in a chemical reaction, often producing heat as a by-product.
  • Is there anything else that I need to know about this type of energy?
  • Yeah, also, chemical energy is stored in bonds of atoms and molecules. The only time that it can be seen is when it is released.
  • I think that I understand what chemical energy is but what are some of examples of it?
  • A few examples are using batteries, burning wood, using propane gas, and of course, eating food!
  • I can't believe that I never knew this before. Thanks for telling me!
  • I will, and if I ever need a science lesson I know I can come to you. You really are great at this stuff!
  • Anytime! Enjoy your burger and fries.
