Three Witches wait to meet Macbeth, their conversation is full of paradox and ambiguous. They say they will greet Macbeth "when the battle's lost and won."
Duncan, the King of Scotland, greets a captain who has returned from battle. The Captain tells Duncan of Macbeth and Banquo's acts of bravery in battle. Duncan decides to execute his disloyal thane and give the title to Macbeth.
Macbeth and Banquo happen upon the wiches, who hail Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor. They tell Banquo that he will be "less and greater" than Macbeth, after telling them this the witches disappear without a trace. And shortly after, Ross and Angus appear to tell Macbeth he has been declared Thane of Cawdor.
Duncan demands to know if the former Thane of Cawdor has been executed, His son, Malcolm, informed him that the deed has been done. Macbeth enters, Duncan thanks Banquo and Macbeth for their loyalty and bravery, then he announces the decision to make his son Heir to the throne. Macbeth is disappointed by this because his accension to the throne is hindered.
Duncan arrives at Inverness with Banquo and exchanges Pleasantries with Lady Macbeth, The king inquires after Macbeth's whereabouts and she offers to bring him to where Macbeth awaits.
Macbeth realizes that Murdering his king is an unforgivable sin, and he decides to not lay a finger on Duncan. Lady Macbeth urges him to kill Duncan as she would do the same if it were her own child(probably the most f'ed up thing I've ever heard). She somehow convinces him and they begin to plan step by step on how to murder their king.
