In a character vs. character conflict, Paulie and Logs are run off of the road by who are said to be officer Rankin and others from his alliance with Arney. Logs and Paulie evade the confrontation by sneaking away into the woods.
While escaping the enemies, Paulie and Logs use their experience in swimming to their advantage. The water is near freezing, and as the characters face nature, Logs has to rest on a ski-jump in the lake. Justin's father brings his boat to retrieve Logs from the lake.
Paulie sees Arney's car parked outside of Hannah's house, so he sneaks in only to find Hannah's family at gunpoint and a bullet hole in her father's leg. Arney is in a character vs. character conflict against Paulie and Hannah's family. Paulie calls the police on Arney who is arrested and taken into custody.
With the frightening texts from who was believed to have been Mary, Paulie and Logs take the phone to officer Rankin for him to handle. This is a character vs. character conflict because officer Rankin very well may use this evidence against them. With no other options, Paulie and Logs put their trust into officer Rankin.
