"How do you know he loves her?" (2.2.165)
"Signior, you are very near my brother and his love. He is enamored in Hero. I pray you dissuade him from her. She is no equal for his birth. You may do the part of an honest man in it. "(2.2.161-164)
"I heard him swear his affection" (2.2.166)
"So did I too, and he swore he would marry her tonight."(2.2.167-168)
"Come, let us to the the banquet." (2.2.169)
"Thus answer I in the name of Benedick, But hear these ill news with the ears of Claudio. 'Tis certain so; the prince wooes for himself. Friendship is constant in all other things Save in the office and affairs of love: Therefore, all hearts in love use their own tongues; Let every eye negotiate for itself And trust no agent; for beauty is a witch Against whose charms faith melteth into blood. This is an accident of hourly proof, Which I mistrusted not. Farewell, therefore, Hero!" (2.2.170-180)
This is the beginning of Don John's plan to trick Claudio into thinking that Don Pedro is actually in love with Hero, while Claudio is getting this 'news' he has to take it in and can not react because Claudio is thinking that they do not know it is Claudio but that they are talking to Benedict
Continuing the conversation between Claudio or as known for the night Benedict, Don John and Borachio. Claudio is trying to get as much information he can while Don Johns plan is working flawlessly saying he overheard Don Pedro say he was in love with Hero and Borachio chiming in saying he would marry her tonight.
As Don John and Borachio successfully leave Claudio behind to go to the banquet Claudio starts to rethink his plan to get Hero to love him. He is saying how he should have just made Hero love him by doing it himself. Claudio has to remain answering and responding ad Benedict but he will hear and be impacted by what he hears as Claudio.
