  • Moral Tale / Legends
  • Beowulf
  • Beowulf
  • A tale from long ago, around 15th and 16th centuries, that depict struggles against good and evil which revealed a lesson learned.
  • Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
  • Beowulf is a legend passed down from generations telling of the heroic tale of Beowulf, a fierce warrior who is tasked to slay Grendel, the evil monster terrorizing Hrothgar, back in older times. He conquers this foe and his evil mother ridding the land from its terror.
  • Morte d'Arthur
  • Afterwards a dragon is awoken and Beowulf is tasked again to defend the land, but when he needed assistant, only Wiglaf would help him which result in the death of Beowulf. The legend helps depict a epic hero story and show the path one takes down for its journey.
  • Discrepancies
  • This medieval tale told back in older times talks of Sir Gawain of the round table as he defends his kings honor and plays a game with the green knight. The game is that green will receive a ax blow and a year later Gawain will receive the same. A year passes and he encounters a castle where he plays another game and then finally receives the blow from green. He only scratches him and explains that he was only merely testing him to see if he really was a strong and good heart as he heard he was. The lessoned was learned from Sir Gawain
  • In the tale Morte d'Arthur passed around in old times, Arthur learns of Lancelot love affair with his wife and ban him to France where he builds a kingdom. Sir Gawain wants to take him over so they invaded Lancelot kingdom but during it Sir Mordred takes over the kingdom and King Arthur must go and retrieve. During the battles to come to reclaim his kingdom the chance to kill Mordred arrives but Arthur suffers critical wounds and rafts away with queens and ladies to the women of the lake to return when Britain is in trouble.
  • Between the two Arthur stories, even though filled with similar characters they have many discrepancies. The Green knight was a tale passed around a lot of Sir Gawain bravery and skill in which he learns his lesson from the knight of being yourself and true throughout. Morte d'Arthur is more of a dark tale of Arthur learning the lesson to listen to others and some and learning to forgive which he had learned through death. Each tales lessons are strong and should be followed but the path taken to recieve them was not.
