The 13th amendment abolished slavery. It passed by congress on Jan 31, 1865, and ratified on December 6, 1865
The 13 amendment stated : "Neither slavery nor voluntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convinced, shall exist within the united states or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
We need to know about this even this event because it abolished slavery. This event impacted the civil war by North fighting to abolish slavery and South fighting to keep slavery.
I was surprised that the senate judiciary committee worked to combine these proposals ans present them to the senate.
I believe that this information I researched helped you understand that this event was trying to help our nation. They were trying to abolish slavery.
An extra information that I would like to add is that the 13th amendment was passed at the end of the civil war before the Southern States had been restored to the union and should have easily passed the congress.
