After losing everything in China Jing-mei's mother sets high hopes in the U.S. She wants Jing-Mei to be a prodigy child.
First her mother expects her to be a prodigy child like a Surley Temple.
Mr. Chong a retired deaf teacher teaches Jing-Mei how to play. She plays whatever keys she wants and Mr. Chong applauds.
Drew Rodriguez Period 4
Jing-Mei performs badly and Mr. Chong is the only one that clapped.
Jing Mei's mom gets her a big present for her 30th birthday.
Jing Mei's mother dies and she feels horrible. She starts to play the right tunes that she played at the recital.
