At the Plaza hotel, Tom confronts Gatsby for loving his wife. Both Gatsby and Tom want Daisy to tell each other that she doesn't love them, but she can't. This is the climax of the story.
While in Gatsby's car, Myrtle sees Tom with Jordan , but thinks she is Daisy. Myrtle then runs out in front of the car and gets hit and killed. "Myrtle Wilson's body, wrapped in a blanket, an then in another blanket, lay on a work table by the wall."
Daisy decides to choose Tom over Gatsby. Tom protects Daisy from getting blamed for killing Myrtle.
To get revenge on Gatsby, Tom apathetically goes to Myrtle's husband and tells him that Gatsby killed Myrtle.
Filled with a prodigious rage, Wilson goes to Gatsby's house and kills Gatsby while he's swimming in his pool. Wilson then shot himself right after he killed Gatsby.
Nick then prepares Gatsby's funeral. Not a lot of people showed up because he didn't have a lot of friends. Nick also meets Gatsby's dad. The theme of the story is the decline of the American dream.
