Storyboard Text

  • Perspective and Motivation
  • I am Montressor, Fortunato has insulted my family far too mny times. I must kill him so he may never do so again.
  • I am the narrator from The Tell Tale Heart. The man with the vulture eyes has been frightening me. I must kill him, as to never be seen in those eyes again.
  • Claim
  • Evidence
  • In two stories written by Edgar Allan Poe, we are presented with two different main characters. Both are killers, but have differing motivations.
  • Analysis
  • Montressor was mor justified in killing Fortunato that the narrator was in murdering the man with the eye.
  • Counterclaim
  • Montresor states, "Fortunato had insulted me. So I vowed revenge. Not in so many words, of course. Never aloud" (Poe, 27).
  • Conclusion
  • This shows Montresors motive for killing Fortunato. Fortunato had insulted Montresors family. In this time period, your family name was very important to your reputation. Montresor could lose every good thing he has going for him because of Fortuanatos words.
  • The Montresor's do not contribute to our town whatsoever!
  • This however is not true. The narrator acted out of fear and madness, Montresor was defending the family name. The narrator states, "He had never wronged me." (Poe, 3) This proves how the narrator of Tell Tale Heart acted without purpose and motive against the man. Unlike Montresor, who had been wronged many times over
  • No! I am more justified. The family name is more important than some petty fear.
  • Some may say that I have a better reason for becoming a murderer. As I acted out of fear of the vulture eye.
  • Montresor is More justified in becoming a killer.
  • With Fortunato gone, my reputation can finally be restored!
