Man vs. Self
Man vs. Society
Man vs. Nature
The old man is struggling for days against the Merlin that he is struggling to reel in. This is Man vs Nature because he (the old man) is fighting the fish(nature) and later will finally reel it in.
Because of the man's experiences in Africa with lions as a boy he finds himself remembering the times when he was young. This represents man vs. self because he is longing to be young and not weathered like he is now.
The people in the town view the old man as weak and idiotic for going out and wasting his time every day fishing and never catching anything. This is a man vs. society conflict because of the way the rest of the town (society) views the old man, and how he was given the reputation in town by his failure to catch fish.
