  • I'm thankful to be the first African American to win an Olympic Gold Medalist.
  • Alice was an Olympic athlete for high jump. She also did track and field. She was born on November 9, 1923. When Alice was 16 years old she received a scholarship in 1939 for high jump in Alabama.
  • She is the first African American women to win an Olympic gold medal. Alice also inducted into the hall of fame for track and field. She won her Olympic gold in 1948.
  • Alice proved to all people that you can win and it doesn't matter how you look, it matters how hard you try.
