Dante and Virgil enter the fourth circle, Avarice and Prodigality.
They are stopped by the raging Plutus, but Dante scolded and reprimanded Plutus. Plutus falls to the ground and both poets move along.
Dante gets a glimpse of the fourth circle, for the wasters and the hoarders. Their punishment for wasting and hoarding was that they roll enormous weights at each other.
Virgil reminded Dante that time passed quickly so they needed to go into the next circle. They crossed a bank.
Virgil and Dante found a dark water which flowed in a stream into a marsh. This march was called Styx.
In the Styx, Dante found people with their hand and feet in the mud. Each person was also hurting each other. Virgil told Dante that she was looking at the souls destroyed by anger.
