The diamond necklace! It's gone!
Oh, my dear Matilda, the necklace was fake!
The party was amazing and Matilda enjoyed a lot. When they came home, Matilda looked at the mirror. Suddenly she cried out in horror. The diamond necklace had gone. They had to replace the missing necklace with a new one but they didn't have enough time so they wrote Mrs. Forester a letter to earn time.
They found a necklace very similar to the old one. Mr. Loisel inherited a little money from his father and he borrowed the rest from other people. They collected thirty-six thousand francs and bought it. The next ten years were very difficult for them. They started to live in poverty. They got rid of their housekeeper and moved to another apartment.
Matilda's hands became red and rough because of doing housework. In the end, they paid all their debts. One Sunday, Matilda saw Jeanne in the park and approached her. At first, Jeanne couldn't recognize her. Matilda told her about the last ten years. She was impressed about her friend's behavior and felt sorry for her. Then she told that the necklace was fake.
