  • The heather birds symbolize being carefree of all problems. "Millicent thought of the Heather birds swooping carefree over the moors.

  • In the beginning of the book, Millicent wants to be part of the sorority to fit in. But in the end she realizes you don't have to be part of a group. "Her own private initiation had begun." Pg. 10

  • In the book. The tiny man symbolizes the theme of the story. You don't have to be part of a group in order to relate with other people. "She felt a sudden comradeship with the man" pg 8
  • Theme of the story is that you can relate with someone else whether you're in a group or not."Millicent broke out into a spontaneous laughter, she felt a sudden comradeship with the man." pg 8
  • Bev is shown in the book to be rude at Millicent and sweet to other girls who are in the sorority. "I said get up are you deaf?" pg 5, "You can't tell them what to do. Bev said sweetly" pg.6
