On the day of Philips murder, Philip had organised musical competitions to run in tandem with the wedding ceremonies.
'People flocked to the theatre when it was still dark' to get a good seat of musical competitions. Once filled , Philip entered 'wearing a white cloak' (Diodorus)
During the applause Philip was recieving, Pausanias, leader of body guards stabbed philip "right through the ribs" with a celtic dagger. (Diodorus)
Im Leonnatus and Im Periccas and we both killed Pausanias.
Philip died on spot he was stabbed. According to Diodorus, Pausanias attempted to escape as he had stationed horses at gates nearby to speed him to safety.
My body guards rushed to me to aid me but there was nothing they could do to save me, the king, from my fate.
But Pausanias tripped over a vine
He was over-run with body guards, including Leonnatus and Peridiccas who speared him to death.
