Madame Loisel was an ordinary girl who dreamed of living a luxurious life full of wealth.
One day, M. Loisel brought home an invitation to an extravagant ball with wealthy people. Madame Loisel bought a beautiful dress and borrowed a diamond necklace.
They were having a good time but during the night, Madame Loisel lost the necklace! She spent the rest of the morning looking for the necklace and ahd given up. She decided to buy a new one to replace the original.
The replacement necklace costs thirty six thousand francs. In order to pay for the necklace, the Loisels had to work really hard, give up their apartment, and selling most of their valuables.
They lived in despair for the rest of their lives but they finally payed for the necklace. They decided to go to Mme. Forestier, the lady they borrowed the necklace from, to give her the necklace.
When they met Mme. Forestier, she thanked them but said that the necklace she had was an imitation and it wasn't worth thirty six thousand francs.
