Arthur W. Mitchell
Arthur Mitchell was an U.S. representative born on December 22, 1883 originally from Alabama. As a child Arthur's parents were former slaves named Taylor and Ammar. When he was a little older he attended Tuskege Institute in 1897, then making his way through collage assisting Booker T. Washington. As an adult he tough in schools for a while,then also studied law before becoming the first African American house representative.
Arthur's accomplishments included becoming an he went to Tuskegee Institute, he then became an office boy for Booker T Washington, then becoming a lawyer in 1927. Then he also helped the other African Americans have the right to vote.
His importance is that Arthur was the first ever African American to be elected to the United States Congress as a democrat.
