  • "But our real fun and our real fear lay in Ms. Lottie herself". Verbal. The fear is someone they act like they hate.

  • First person limited. " A patch of yellow, Ms. Lottie's Marigolds." In front of Ms. Lottie's house with the squeaking chair and why the children frown upon her house.
  • Theme
  • "The years have taken me worlds away from that time and place, from the dust of our lives, and from the bright thing that I destroyed in a blind; childish striking out at God knows what".
  • They interfered with the perfect ugliness of the place; they were too beautiful: they said too much we could not understand.
  • When exposed to the reality of the world in your childhood you lose your innocence and start to gain compassion as you enter adulthood.
