  • mathelde husband told her to write the friend a letter and tell her that her necklace was getting fixed.but they bought mathelde's friend a new one that was worth 40,000 francs but got it for 36,000 francs.they worked for 10 years to pay off the dept for the necklace they had replaced.
  • Mathelde had run into her friend after 10 years and the friend didn't even recognize her. Mathelde had confessed to her friend and turns the friends necklace was a fake that was worth 500 francs which was not close to the amount that Mathelde and husband spent for the replacement necklace.
