  • January 20, 1793, the National Convention condemned Louis XVI to death, his execution scheduled for the next day. Louis spent that evening saying goodbye to his wife and children.
  • The committee of public safety was created to deal with the many threats of france. It had 12 members who had almost absolute power.
  • Known as the "incorruptible" Robespierre quickly rose to leader of the comittee of public safety. He wanted to abolish slavery and promoted religous tolerance.
  • Robespierre was the head of the reign of terror. He ruled feircely and merciless. Trials were quick and most ended with a death senence.
  • Joseph Guillotine was a doctor who suggested the use of the Guillotine because of the swift, flawless and painless job that it did. Was responsible for 109 executions per day in a one year span.
  • Marked as a dictator and tyrant the committee of public saftey turned on Robespierre. As he was arrested he was shot in the jaw and could not speak.
