January 20, 1793, the National Convention condemned Louis XVI to death, his execution scheduled for the next day. Louis spent that evening saying goodbye to his wife and children.
The committee of public safety was created to deal with the many threats of france. It had 12 members who had almost absolute power.
Known as the "incorruptible" Robespierre quickly rose to leader of the comittee of public safety. He wanted to abolish slavery and promoted religous tolerance.
Robespierre was the head of the reign of terror. He ruled feircely and merciless. Trials were quick and most ended with a death senence.
Joseph Guillotine was a doctor who suggested the use of the Guillotine because of the swift, flawless and painless job that it did. Was responsible for 109 executions per day in a one year span.
Marked as a dictator and tyrant the committee of public saftey turned on Robespierre. As he was arrested he was shot in the jaw and could not speak.
