Toms River High School East
CLASS OF 2020 #CHOOSETOBE #CHOOSETOGROW
Why is there a need for drug awareness in Ocean County high schools? Not only has the amount of overdoses has doubled in Ocean County, but 10/30 towns in N.J. for the highest amount of heroin use were located in Ocean County, Tom's River being #5 on that list!
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office is starting a Choose To GROW initiative, where a tree will be planted at each Ocean County high school, encouraging growth and wellness throughout the Class of 2020's time in school.
A tree symbolizes growth, learning and strength. A formal ceremony of planting a tree will signify students' devotion to these values, as they will strive to grow instead of engaging in drug use and ruining their lives.
Class of 2020 #CHOOSETOBE Donated by OCPO
The tree in the winter symbolizes when students are faced with though decisions and hard times. It may seem hard to see the bright side, but if the students remember their values they will be able to come out stronger.
After the winter, the tree begins to grow and flourish again. This is exactly how the students will feel if they remember to be strong and say no to drugs. They will be able to stay focused, succeed, and grow just like the tree.
After graduation, the Class of 2020 will be able to return to see a fully grown tree. The students will be reminded that even through hard times, one can flourish if they stay on a good path. The tree will serve as a reminder to the Class of 2020 that if they Choose to Be drug free, they can Choose to Be anything they want to be.
