Storyboard Text

  • I can't figure out how much a quart of milk will cost. I know that a gallon costs $3.09 and half a gallon costs $1.65.
  • Hello my name is Pi. Welcome to the Magic Market how can I be of assistance.
  • A linear what?
  • Well all you have to do is make a linear equation.
  • A linear equation
  • oh.
  • It's easy all you have to do is use this equation. y=mx+b. Which means find the slope which is 72 cents per quart and find the y intercept which happens to be zero.
  • So if I wanted to estimate the price of a 3 gallon carton of milk I could multiply the slope by 12 and get $8.64.
  • You can also find how many quarts of milk you will be given if there is a price. For instance you could figure out that if a carton of milk costs $3.45, there will be about five quarts.
  • Yeah you got it.
  • I'm still a little confused on what the slope represents.
  • okay
  • Alright I will go over it again, the slope is 72 cents. Which represents how much it would cost to buy 1 quart of milk.
  • Yeah so are price we got is lower than what they are said to be.
  • although our actual price for a quart of milk is 99 cents.
