When Madame and Moiser Loisel are invited to a fancy party, Madame Loisel wants to be presentable and dress to impress. She is not wealthy, so she decides to borrow a piece of jewelry from her wealthy friend, Madame Forestier. She lets her borrow a necklace and Madame Loisel is ecstatic.
At the party, Madame Loisel is admired by the guests the whole night. She is having a blast until it is time to leave. As they get home, she realizes the necklace is nowhere to be found! The Loisel's now have to work for ten years to pay for the new necklace.
Ten years later, when the Loisel's paid off their debt, Madame Loisel ran into Madame Forestier. Loisel tells Forestier about her struggle to pay for her lost necklace. Forestier gives her the news that it was a phony and she should've been honest with her.
