Storyboard Text

  • After a long day of work, he could sleep. Then suddenly he heard a knock at the door. The supervisor was looking for a girl that went missing. They later found her under the bed of a boy. "The overlookers ... cut off the hair of any girl caught talking to a lad. This head shaving was a dreadful punishment."
  • Due to no pay and poor conditions, he decides to join a labor union to protect his rights. He learns of the greed of capitalism and need for change.
  • The children received education through the factory. They learned how to read and write as well as basic mathematics.
  • One day, he picks a newspaper with headlines about socialism and communism. Socialism suggests that the economy should be socially owned to create a more equal society. Communism is a more extreme view that wanted to get rid of all private property. All things are public property and used as needed.
  • He is inspired by the new ideology and decides to plan an escape. He sneaks into an empty supply train car. He successfully escapes the factory to start a new life.
