Shay's Rebellion January 1787
Hi I am Daniel Shay and I led the event called "Shay's Rebellion". Here is my story...
As many men, I fought in the American Revolution against Great Britain. After our victory, many men returned to Massachusetts to work on their farms.
American soldiers were to be paid after the war, but the Central Government could not raise money due to the Articles of the Confederation.
No soldiers have been paid for fighting in the war!
Sir, You have not paid your bills. The bank is taking your farm!
What!? I never got paid for fighting the war!
Many farmers lost their farms and went to prison because they were not paid by the government for fighting in the war.
You are under arrest for not paying your taxes!
I am Daniel Shay! I say we fight back against this unfair treatment, just like the Declaration of Indepenedence says we should! You with me?!
