One day in the city of Canaan, God appeared before Abraham and pitched to him an offer that would make his life more perfect.
He told Abraham that he would be the leader of Canaan (modern day Israel) as part of the covenant.
I have a covenant that will strictly be between you and I. If you accept, I will make you the father of many nations.
Abraham stopped for a second, and thought about what God said to him. Then he turned to his wife Sarai and laughed, before asking God what he would have to do.
Hahahaha. What nonsense! If what you are telling me is true, what would I have to do?
As a token of the covenant, every man and child in this generation and future generations must be circumcised or else they will be banished. As for your wife, you will now call her Sarah. I will grant you Sarah, a son, and he will be named Isaac. As for Ishmael, I will make him a great nation.
God responded as follows:
In the same day, after God left Abraham, Abraham took Ishmael, and all the other males born in his household to get circumcised just like God told him to.
