  • For many years African Americans were bought and sold as slaves.
  • 500$ for this  slave.
  • They had no rights and had no culture of their own.
  • This changed in the 1920's following the passage of the 13th amendment, African Americans created a culture for themselves during a period known as, The Harlem Renaissance.
  • They developed a sense of literature with famous authors like Langston Hughes and W. E. B. Du Bois .
  • There was also music created for the Harlem Renaissance by people like Louis Armstrong.
  • There was so much cultural development for the African American community during the Harlem Renaissance and it shaped the lives of African Americans.
  • HOORAY FOR THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE!
