Storyboard Text

  • Kenny I know you're going to miss Byron, we all will, but son, there are some things he's learning and he's not learning them in Flint, and the things he is learning are things we don't want him to. Do you understand?
  • No
  • Kenny wakes up early and goes to the living room. He sees that the front door is open and looks outside.
  • You've already seen on the news what's happening in the south right? A lot of times that's going to be the world for you kids. Byron is getting old enough to understand the world won't have a lot of jokes for him anymore.
  • Kenny sees that his dad was in the Brown Bomber listening to music. He goes back upstairs to change and then joins him.
  • ?
  • While in the car, Kenny's dad tries to explain to Kenny why Byron has to leave Flint to go to Alabama but Kenny does not understand.
  • Thanks dad!
  • It takes practice becoming a grown up but you'll get used to it.
  • Kenny's dad tells him of how Negros are getting treated unfairly in some parts of the south and how Byron has to mature and realize the reality of the world isn't all fun and games for him when it's dangerous.
  • Kenny did not understand fully of what his dad mean't, however he did like how his dad was talking to him like a grown up and found it hard to act mature while being talked like that.
  • Kenny doesn't get how grownups can handle situations and thinks he won't know how to be one when he grows up, so his dad explains how at first it seems scary but with practice you'll have it under control. His words reassured Kenny.
