Poets arrive from the Lethe river to the shores of the Purgatory.
Cato of Utica instructs the poets to "bathe in the dew" and to "place a reed around Dante's waist".
While on the shore, Dante meets with Casellas, a friend from Florence, who sings.
In the first ledge Dante speaks to Manfred who explains the power of prayer. Their punishment is wait at the base of the cliff for 30 times the period they made God wait.
They go to the second ledge where the late repentant are. The poets are almost out of time so they decide to spend the night at Flower Valley.
The poets enter Flower Valley, here are the Negligent Rulers. These are kings and rulers that did not have time to repent because of their duties.
