This is the scene where Nick first sees the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg while on his way with Tom to see his mistress. The eyes represent God, more specifically God watching over them all.
This is the scene where Gatsby takes Nick out for lunch and a drive in the city with his overly done yellow car. This ties to the theme of matieralism because his car is extremely over done. It is also yellow which represents the the theme of materialism as well.
This is the flashback scene of when Tom was in California with Daisy for their honeymoon and went off with a chambermaid but got into a car crash, breaking her arm but doing nothing to him. This scene represents the theme of reckless disregard for others. The car symbolizes money and the money harms the poor.
