But Brownie was too smart for the wolf. Brownie had gotten up at five-o-clock and went out and got the turnips and went back home before the wolf arrived at six-o-clock. When the wolf found out that the pig had already gone to the field for turnips he became very mad and wondered how he could catch him.
"Little pig, I know where there is a nice apple orchard," replied the mad wolf. "Where?" asked Brownie. "Down at Merry Garden," said the wolf "I will go with you tomorrow morning at five-o-clock and we shall get some apples." But Brownie had out-smarted the wolf again. Brownie had went to the Merry Garden at four-o-clock in the morning and got himself some apples.
But as Brownie was carrying his basket of apples down the tree he saw the wolf. So the wolf said: "Ah I see that you are here before me. Are they very nice apples?" "Yes indeed" replied a frightened little pig. "Here I will throw one down for you." So as Brownie threw an apple down to the wolf, far away from the tree he was in, Brownie had jumped down from the tree and ran home.
And so this made the wolf very, very, very mad. So he devised a plan to catch the little pig. The next morning, the wolf came to his house and said: "Little pig, there is a fair in town will you go?" "Oh yes, what time should we go?" "At three-o-clock," replied the wolf. But at one-o-clock the little pig went off to the fair and bought a great big copper kettle! On the way home with the copper kettle he saw the wolf. Brownie didn't know what to do so he jumped inside the kettle and gave himself a push. And so went the kettle rolling down the hill.
When the wolf saw a big kettle rolling down the hill, he turned and fled back home. The next day the wolf stopped outside the little pigs house again and told him how he saw a big kettle rolling down the hill and how scared he was. This made Brownie laugh. "Ha! I scared you Mister wolf! I had gone to the fair yesterday and bought this big copper kettle. But as I saw you I jumped in it and rolled down the hill," said Brownie. This had made the wolf very mad that he jumped on top of Brownie's house and climbed down the chimney. But Brownie saw this so he made a blazing fire in the fireplace and hung the big copper kettle over it, full with scalding water.
So when the wolf came down the chimney, the little pig pulled the lid off the kettle and BOOM! went in the wolf! Brownie boiled the water for supper and went how to seek for his 2 other brothers; Blackey and Whitey that the wolf had taken. And so they all lived happily together in the brick house forever.
