The Election Of 1800
John Adams (Federalist)
The Election of 1800 was a complex election involving the Federalists and the Jeffersonian Republicans.
Thomas Jefferson (Jeffersonian Republican)
As the current president, Adams passed the Alien & Sedition Act which angered many people.
This resulted in almost everyone turning against him, and he eventually lost to his running mate Aaron Burr
Once the election ended, Jefferson won the popular vote but not the electoral college. Both him and Burr were tied, and it was up to the HOR to decide.
At first, the HOR couldn't even decide who they wanted to be the next president. After a lot of thinking and debating, they finally chose Thomas Jefferson to be the 3rd president of the United States.
