In this first scene, this is where the story begins. Francisco, Bernardo, and Horatio are outside of the castle guarding it when they hear something. When they look, they see a ghost roaming around in armor. They realize it is the king. They try talking to it, but it goes away.
"Question it, Horatio."
King Claudius and Queen Gertrude explain to Hamlet why they got married right after Hamlet's dads death. This is a major turning point because Hamlet does not want his mom to be with Claudius. He is mad and angry because his dad just died, but he listens to Claudius because he knows better.
This is a turning point because Hamlet can now talk to his dad only to find out that his dad was murdered by his uncle Claudius. His dad asks for Hamlet to get revenge for him. He wants Hamlet to do everything he can do and help him. This also shows one of the main themes in Hamlet, revenge.
"Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder".
