Hey! Watch where you're going! I'll sue you! You'll hear from my lawyers!
Oh no! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bump you! Although, you can't sue me for bumping into you by accident.
What do you mean I can't sue you?! Anyone can sue anyone for anything! It's a free country!
In civil court, you can only sue for five things. You could sue for personal injury, but you are obviously not hurt. If you were to sue me, you as the plaintiff would hire a lawyer, who would file a complaint. As the defendant, I would receive a summons requesting me in court. The complaint and summons are called pleadings. There would be a pretrial conference about the trial. Hopefully by then, we would have come up with an easier solution through mediation. We would solve the problem through arbitration, where are third party would decide what to do based on the preponderance of evidence. The verdict would be made, and honestly, they would probably see that this was an accident. If you were really upset, you could ask for an appeal, but that would take longer. Do you really want to waste that much time?
I'm sorry for bumping into you. Here, let me buy you a drink!
Wow, you're right. Sorry I was a jerk. It's been a long night...
