  • In Scarlet Ibis Brother is telling his story of Doddle, his younger brother, who was born sick and is frail, shriveled, and very small. They live in the south around 1918.
  • Climax
  • Brother is five years old when Doodle is born and Brother does not like having Doodle because he has to put up with him and he is embarrassed that Doodle is not normal. Brother pushes Doodle a lot to be normal.
  • Falling Action
  • Doodle begins to talk. Brother teaches Doodle how to walk. They go outside more and climb trees and go swimming. Brother gets angry and frustrated at Doodle often, he makes Doodle touch the coffin their parents bought for him when he was born and supposed to die. One day a scarlet ibis hits a tree and dies and Doodle goes to great lengths to burry it. Another day when they are outside a bad storm comes and Brother gets Doodle to start running so they can get home faster.
  • Resolution
  • Doodle is a couple of feet behind Brother and calls out for him to not leave him behind, but brother does not stop running.
  • Brother realizes that he should stop and wait for Doodle, but when Doodle does not come brother goes back to get him and finds him dead with blood coming from his mouth and down his neck and on his shirt.
  • Brother whimpers at the death of his brother, cradles him in his arm and realizes that he was selfies and to harsh on Doodle.
