  • Starting A Colony
  • Ancient Greeks would need to travel by seas because traveling from land was difficult. Although the seas were easier to travel, storms can destroy ships and open water can cause ships to sink.
  • Trading
  • Farming in Ancient Greece was difficult because of the rocky land and many areas had mountains providing the farmers with a small area to farm. There were no major rivers flowing through Greece and rain would only be seen during Winter. The only way was to use water from the seas to water the plants. Farmers of Greece also raised animals like sheep and goat because goats provided milk and cheese.

  •  The Greeks established their colonies from 1,000-650 B.C.E. The Greeks needed different actions before starting a new colony. They would first ask an oracle to ask the Greek gods if their effort would be successful. If so, there would gather their goodies like supplies and food.  Lastly, they would take a sacred fire to their new home and burnt their village
  • Ancient Greece traded, so they can get needed goodies.  The Greeks traded their olive oil and pottery for goods like grains, timber, and medal.  To trade, they would use merchant ships. Some difficulties with these ships include needing to survive around 2 months, using stars to guide because there was no compass, and no lighthouses giving the Greeks no warning.
