  • Beowulf was injured and was losing quickly. Once his sword broke, Beowulf's neck was "clamped between sharp fangs; he was drenched in life-blood; gore gushed in wave" (2692-2694). At this time Wiglaf sank his sword into the dragon "gleaming and golden so that the fire began to weaken" (2701-2702).
  • "Of land rights must of your clan every man become deprived, when nobles from afar learn of your flight, glories dead: death is better for all men than a life of dishonour" (2886-2091). How could you! He was so good to us!
  • Beowulf's men return.
  • Beowulf was buried with his riches from. His people came to mourn , "despairing in their hearts they bemoaned their grief" (3149) and they built him barrow. They new they were doomed without him.
