  • It is midnight in December, and it is very cold. The narrator is sitting by the fire, reading a book, while nodding off when he hears tapping on his door.
  • Falling Action
  • The narrator thinks that the tapping noise is someone and tries to tell them that he is trying to sleep. He opens the door and there is no one there. He opens a window and a raven flies in and sits on top of his door frame.
  • Resolution
  • He asks the raven where it is from. The raven replies, "Nevermore". He asks the raven if God sent it to tell him about his lost wife Lenore. The raven replies, "Nevermore".
  • Allusion
  • The narrator asks the raven if he will see his wife again in heaven. The raven says nevermore.
  • The raven sat there and did not move.
  • Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Plutonian Shore.
