Martin Luther Escapes the Storm
The Journey to Rome
The Visit To the Shrine
Martin Luther is stuck in a rainstorm and gets struck by lightning. He then prays throughout the massive storm and promises that if he gets out alive he will become a priest and praise God for the rest of his life.
After he gets out of this rainstorm, he begins his journey of becoming a priest by traveling to Rome. He also sees how other priests run their church and what he could do to become a better priest during this trip to Rome.
Martin Luther Realizes......
As he walks throughout Rome, he pays money to see the famous shrine of John the Baptist. People find his shrine interesting due to the fact that this baptist's head was chopped off.
The German Bible
Shortly after he visits the shrine, Martin also goes to buy a relic. This relic was significant to the Roman Catholic Church because as you walk up the steps, you say a prayer. Once you got to the top and all you're prayers have been said, the relic is then known to free a loved one from purgatory.
Martin Luther finally realizes that the Roman Catholic Church is betraying the followers of this religion. He now has a very strong opinion on how wrong the Catholic Church is as they're charging people unnecessarily for these items that don't actually do anything. These relics are popular because the Church demands that people should use them. So, as people pay for them the money is then donated to the Roman Catholic Church for their own riches.
Martin Luther handwrites and translates the bible from Latin to German so people can understand it. He does this translation so he can show the peasants that they're being betrayed by the Roman Catholic Church. The main thing he does to show this to the church is by writing the 95 Theses to show that there is nothing in the bible that says you're promised to go to heaven the minute you drop your money to buy the relic. This act resulted in the excommunication of Luther.
