  • "So Grendel waged his lonely war, inflicting constant cruelties on the people, atrocious hurt" (164-166).
  • "When he heard about Grendel, Thygelac's thane was on home ground, over in Geatland" (194-195).
  • Beowulf! It's terrible, the Danes are in trouble! It's a monster, a great beast!
  • OMG! I am the only one who could possibly save them. No one is better than me. It has been decided, I will go to them!
  • "Enlisting men, the best he could find" (206-207). In his day he was the mightiest man on earth" (197).
  • Let us go men! The Danes need warriors such as us!
  • Warriors: HURRAH!!!
  • "He ordered a boat that would ply the waves" (198-199).
  • Beowulf: Now my mighty warriors we will be going against great foes. Are you ready for a marvelous battle?
  • I will slay these sea-beast!
