Why must you be the enemy, my dear Romeo?
After meeting Juliet at the Masque, Romeo hides in her orchard. As Juliet talks about her love for Romeo, he struggles with deciding how to respond. He does not want to come out of hiding, but knows that she has the same desire for him as he has for her.
After deciding to get married to Juliet, Romeo visits the cell of Friar Laurence, who knows his romantic history. Friar Laurence is reluctant to agree to marry the two lovers because of this. However, he agrees, only to end the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues.
True, I do not think marriage is a good option for you, but we must marry you two in order to stop the feud.
When is the soonest we can get married?
While discussing Romeo, Benvolio tells Mercutio that Tybalt sent a letter to Lord Montague's house. In this letter, he challenges Romeo to a duel because of his presence at a party to which he was not invited. Mercutio, who knows about Tybalt's fighting skills, jokes about Romeo's chances of winning to Tybalt.
Did you hear? Tybalt challenged Romeo to a duel.
Are you kidding? Romeo? The Montgue? Ha!
