The paleo period was during the ice age. In the paleo period the native Americans followed their food, stayed in caves, and invented a weapon to hunt bigger animals, such as the mammoth. It was called the atlatl.
The archaic period began at the end of the ice age. They migrated less and stayed in deer skin homes. The climate was warmer and most of the bigger animals died off so they ate fish and crops.
The woodland period came after the archaic period. In this period they ate fish and crops, builded permanent houses, and they also created the bow and arrow.
