why do I need to have this vaccination, doctor ?
Vaccinations protect you from specific diseases that can make you very sick, disable or even kill you. They boost your body's own defence system, which is also called the immune system.
a vaccination is a dead or weakened form of the illness it is for. Having this little bit of the germ inside your body makes your body's defence system build antibodies (proteins that detect and destroy invaders) to fight off this kind of germ.
Your immune system uses a huge army of defender cells - different types of white blood cell. You make about 1000 million of them every day in your bone marrow
Some of these cells, called macrophages, constantly patrol your body, destroying germs as soon as they enter.
however, if the macrophages are overpowered and cannot defeat the germs, the illness lakes hold in your body.
