During the Great Fear, a group of peasants was storming the streets in search of weapons, and heard that there was gunpowder in the Bastille Prison. They busted into the prison and released the seven prisoners being held there.
The Reign of Terror was the time when Maximilien Robespierre was in command of France. Anyone who objected to rebellious ideas was beheaded. Everyone was very afraid.
Women gathered outside the Palace of Versailles, demanding bread. This is the occasion that Marie Antoinette famously said "let them eat cake."
