  • Tom is a college football star that never got over his fame, he is massive and arrogant, brutish and macho, From the beggining he is disliked for his garbage ways, he is shown to be racist and abusive towards women showing no respect, He is incredibly wealthy however and beleives he is the pinnacle of class and sophistication, unbeknownst to him, he is trash (11)

  • Gatsby is a sad man, A man with all the money in the world.
  • Prone to extravagant displays of his wealth Gatsby however is sad
  • For reasons unknown, the only insight to his woe is his fixation with a strange green light across the bay where daisy lives. He reaches for the light but cannot reach. This seems like a representation of his desire for Daisy and he is reaching for what he cannot obtain. An example proving this is when Daisy is with Gatsby the light is obscured by mist, 102

  • Nick is an average man living among above average people
  • He believes himself to be a paragon of virtue and honesty but in truth lies and judges all who are around them while simultaneously emulating their behavior and suppsoedly scorning their lavish lifestyle but bracing it himself (6)
