  • Because of the seven years war the British found themselves in debt. So in order to solve this problem paraliment passed the stamp act on March 22, 1773. Which taxed colonist on any printed paper.
  • We are broke!!!!!
  • Don't worry we can just take money from the colonist with these new taxes.
  • Who puts taxes on cards?!
  • What?! We never approved of this!
  • England never talked about this with us
  • Stamp Act taxes
  • This stamp act made the colonist furious. It not only taxed them on the most ridiculous things (cards, dice, etc.). But the fact it was passed without letting a colonist have a say in the tax decision.
  • New Taxes!
  • If these taxes weren't enough England had there British soldiers stay around the colonist in a time of peace. This made colonist very uncomfortable. Tired of the British soldier presence the Boston Massacre happened on March 5,1770.

  • Stop throwing snow balls or else we'll have to use force!!!!!!!
  • After a few years the British lowered the taxes on tea in order to help the Dutch East India Company raise profit. But instead of rejoicing they saw this act as England's way of undermining the colonist businesses. The colonist were still upset over the Boston Massacre at this time and this fueled their anger leading them to the Boston tea party on December 16, 17773 and dumped 100,000 pounds of tea into the ocean.

  • WE DON"T NEED YOUR TEA!!!!!!!!
  • Tired of the way the British has been treating them. The colonist decided it was time for them to become independent from England.
  • We'll form our own government!
  • We don't need England
  • No more taxation without representation
  • So through all these events it lead to the creation of the greatest historical document, The Declaration of Independence. Which not only said why they are breaking away from England it also said that the government should be trying to protect the natural rights of the people instead of interfering with it. It was signed on July 4,1776
