Storyboard Text

  • Good Morning Boys and Girls. Lets get ready to start our math lesson. Today's lesson we will be talking about numerator and denominator.
  • While telling the students about numerator and denominator dipsplay the words on the board.
  • 1/2 - How to we read this number? Yes this number is one half. The number at the top is called the NUMERATOR. The number at the bottom is the DENOMINATOR.
  • NUMERATOR
  • DENOMINATOR
  • You can think of the line in the fraction as saying "out of". So if you ate one-half of a pizza you ate one out of two pices of pizza. The numerator, one is the number you had, two, is the number of pieces total.
  • Now lets practice. You have skittles in front of you. Let's think about how we can make fractions out of Skittles. How many red skittles do you have?(you are going to put that number on top, the numerator) How many Skittles do you in all? (that is the denominator, you are going to put that number on the bottom)
  • Now let's do another example. How many green Skittles do you have? (Let's place that number on top of the line, the numerator) How many Skittles do we have in all? (Let's place that number below the line, the denominator)
  • Boys and girls you have done a great job so far. Now I am passing out a Numerator and Denominator Skittles Practice. If you need any help plese raise your hand. Good Luck.
