  • Mr. Tushman said "Hi, August, it's a pleasure to meet you" (Palacio 15).
  • Initial Dialogue or Event
  • Propels the Action by...
  • August stated “ Mr. Tushman looked right a me and smiled and nodded. He put his hand out for me to shake" (Palacio 15).
  • Outcome
  • August stated "As she said this, she pushed open the double doors to a huge auditorium. At the other end of the room was a stage" (Palacio 27).
  • August and his mom meet with Mr. Tushman for the second time. They will have a meeting to discuss what August will do at his new school.
  • Initial Dialogue or Event
  • August says "The moment we got inside the house, I ran into my room and threw myself onto my bed. I could tell Mom didn't know what was up, and I guess I really didn't either" (Palacio 33).
  • August and his mom are meeting with Mr. Tushman. They discuss what he will do at his new school. Mr. Tushman instructs August and his mom on what the new school is like and what he will do there.

  • August says "Really, Mom. I want to" (Palacio 34).
  • August's mom says “You don’t have to go to school if you don’t want, sweetie" (Palacio 34).
  • Jack Will, Julian, and Charlotte give a tour of Beecher Prep to August. They show August the auditorium and he is amazed.

  • August states "My name is August, I said, and yeah, I kind of mumbled it" (Palacio 43).
  • August just arrived at his house after the meeting with Mr. Tushman and the tour with Julian, Charlotte, and Jack Will. He doesn't know if he wants to go to Beecher Prep yet.
  • August decided that he wants to go to school. His mom isn't forcing him to go because she wants him to decide. This event will change August's life.
  • August is very nervous on the first day of school. He is very quiet.
